Sam Roberts is a Canadian rock singer and songwriter who was born on October 2, 1974. Roberts formed a band in 1993 that was originally known as William. In 1996 the band changed its name to Northstar. Northstar was never able to form a national audience and broke up by 1998. Roberts began his solo career immediately afterwards. It was not until 2002 before Roberts gained more notice. Shortly after gaining some recognition he signed with Universal Music.
Sam Roberts' first full-length album on a major label was titled We Were Born in a Flame and released in 2003. The album was very successful, particularly in Canada. In April of 2006 Sam Roberts released Chemical City in Canada. By May 2006 the album was released in the United States as well. It won a Juno award in 2007 for Rock Album of the Year.
