Tupac Amaru Shakur was born on June 16, 1971. He also went by the names 2Pac, Makaveli, and ‘Pac. Tupac began his career in 1991 when he appeared in Digital Underground's single called "Same Song." He released his debut album, 2Paclypse Now, later that year. Tupac released a total of six studio albums from 1991 to 1996. The most successful, All Eyez on Me, reached 9x platinum. 'Pac sold a total of 70 million records worldwide.

Tupac’s life was filled with legal troubles. Shakur was accused of shooting two off-duty police officers in 1993. Also in 1993, he was charged with sexually abusing a woman. The day before the verdict was to be announced in his sexual assault case Tupac was shot five times. Tupac accused Puff Daddy and Notorious B.I.G. of the shooting, which would lead to an East-West Coast feud. In 1996 Shakur was wounded in a drive by shooting. He died 6 days later at the age of 25 from respiratory failure and cardiac arrest.
