Nelly Kim Furtado is a singer-songwriter who was born on December 2, 1978 in Victoria, British Columbia. Nelly Furtado began singing at the age of four. She began learning to play instruments (trombone, ukulele, guitar, and keyboard) at the age of nine. Nelly did vocals on a 1996 album by the hip hop group Crazy Cheese. In 1999 she signed a record deal with DreamWorks Records and released her first single, "Party's Just Begun (Again)," later that year on the Brokedown Palace soundtrack.

In October of 2000 Nelly Furtado released her debut album, Whoa, Nelly! Singles from her debut album included "I'm like a Bird," Turn off the Light," "...On the Radio," and "Hey, Man!" She won a Grammy in 2002 for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. Nelly released her second album, Folklore, in 2003. In 2006 Nelly's third album was released. Loose was far more successful than her previous album, and even more successful than her debut album.
